CBC Radio Interview

A CBC Radio interview? Really? Yes indeed, as it turned out…

I got a call from CBC Radio (North) in Whitehorse, Yukon the other day asking if I’d be willing to come in for an interview about the release of my new book “How to Survive the Death of a Child/A Father’s Story of Healing Light”.

Of course I was willing and delighted to be asked, given that this request represented a first contact from local media in my area in response to the PRWeb Press Release about the book which came out on November 21, 2011.

During the interview, Sandi Coleman, host of the ‘A New Day’ show which airs from 6:30 to 8:00 a.m. weekday mornings asked a number of potent questions related to my experience of loss and the writing of the book itself. I found myself answering them from within the pathos of the events themselves as resurrected to my memories by those questions. They were good ones which spoke to the heart of the issues that resulted in the writing and publication of my story.

Another vital question she asked was in regard to my connection with Hospice Yukon, a local organization set up and staffed to help people cope with the loss of their loved ones.

This was a particularly poignant question for me as well, given that Hospice Yukon was the organization I turned to in the crippling pain of my loss looking for some help to deal with it all, and they were there for me in Hearts, let me tell you! I told her that I’m not sure I would have survived the experience of my daughter’s death had it not been for the kind, caring and understanding counseling support this organization provided to me in my time of greatest need.

It was a timely question too given that Hospice Yukon are holding their annual Lights of Life Ceremony to remember the life of a loved one in Whitehorse on December 15th – an event I’m a regular attendee of given the importance of this organization in my life, and one which will also receive a portion of the proceeds from the sale of my book as a way of saying thanks to them.

Fittingly we agreed the interview should air on Sandi’s morning show on December 15th to coincide with the Lights of Life Ceremonies, as a gesture of support for the outstanding help and healing efforts which Hospice Yukon provides those who walk in their door.

Sandi Coleman’s question reminded me once again that I’ll remain forever grateful I found that door and made the choice of entering it.

You’re invited to tune in to my CBC Radio interview on December 15th during Sandi’s show if you’re able to receive their station in your area.
