The Beauty of African musical interpretations brought to Life in the Voices of the Soweto Gospel Choir

Soweto Gospel Choir

The beauty of African musical interpretations brought to life in the voices of the Soweto Gospel Choir are a source of powerful inspiration and delight second to none if you’re a lover of harmony.

I stumbled across this group on a foray through YouTube some time back and saved a choice few of their numbers to be able listen to again later. It’s surprising how many times I’ve since found myself clicking on these videos to once more revel in the vibrant harmonies and powerful message of the words being sung by them.

Formed in Soweto, South Africa this colorfully and beautifully garbed 30+ member ensemble blends elements of African gospel, Negro spiritual, reggae and American popular music in their performances, creating a sweet and soulful sound that reaches into and deeply touches the hearts of their many listeners worldwide.

They’ve even accompanied the Irish rock-band U2 in a particularly powerful version of the song “Where the Streets have no Name”, which I’ve included as one of the three videos with this post for your enjoyment as well.

Sit back in your chair now, turn up the sound, and be prepared to be both amazed and inspired by the powerfully uplifting vocal sounds you’re about to listen to in their versions of “Amazing Grace”, “African Dream” and the combined sounds of “Where the Streets have no Name” with U2.

The beauty of African musical interpretations brought to life in the voices of the Soweto Gospel Choir will fill your ears and your heart with both their musical magic and their beauty!
